Oakfield’s Monument Maker

We’re Oakley Monument Company in Batavia, a monument maker that keeps granite design, cemetery coordination, and installation under one roof for families across Genesee County. Oakfield sits six miles up Route 63, one of the more direct drives to our showroom of any town we serve, about 11 minutes with no turns to think about. Whether your family is working with Cary Cemetery, St. Cecilia Cemetery, or planning ahead for years down the road, one call starts the process and we carry it through to the day your monument is set.

We Work at the Cemetery Six Miles Down Route 63

Oakfield sits close to the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, over 10,000 acres of wetland and forest just a few miles north of the village and a lot of Oakfield families know the area by that landmark as much as by any road name. That same rural, close-to-nature setting is part of why so many people here commute into Batavia and Rochester for work but keep their roots firmly in Oakfield, it’s a bedroom community with a small-town center, not a suburb that lost its identity.

Route 63, called Lewiston Road through this stretch, runs straight from Oakfield into downtown Batavia with no detours. Families planning a memorial for Cary Cemetery on Maple Avenue, or for St. Cecilia Cemetery right next door, find the trip to our showroom short enough that a quick visit to look at granite in person is never a big ask.

Oakfield’s cemeteries sit on relatively firm, well-drained ground compared to the muck soil found in parts of nearby Elba, but Western New York’s freeze-thaw winters still put real stress on a monument foundation here. We build every foundation in this area to account for how the specific ground behaves through the season, not a generic spec pulled from somewhere else in the county.

What to Know About Oakfield’s Cemeteries Before You Order?

Cary Cemetery

Cary Cemetery sits at the northeast corner of Maple Avenue and Albert Street, in the west half of the village. The Town of Oakfield has owned and maintained it since 1964, and it remains the village’s largest and most active cemetery today.

St. Cecilia Cemetery

St. Cecilia Cemetery sits at 56 Maple Avenue, directly adjacent to Cary Cemetery. It serves the local Catholic community and remains active for burials.

Reed Cemetery and East Oakfield Cemetery

Reed Cemetery sits about two miles west of the village center on Judge Road (Route 63), and East Oakfield Cemetery sits on Lockport Road. Both are administered by the Town of Oakfield alongside Cary Cemetery.

Permit and Regulation Requirements in Oakfield

The Town of Oakfield administers its cemeteries through the Highway Superintendent’s office, and cemetery hours change seasonally, generally weekday mornings through early afternoon in winter, and longer hours in the warmer months. Specific monument requirements aren’t published online, which is typical for cemeteries this size.
We call the cemetery office directly, confirm current requirements before your monument goes into production, and handle the permit paperwork so that part of the process isn’t sitting on your shoulders.

Our Services for Oakfield Families

For Reasons Oakfield Families Choose Us

Oakfield is one of the shorter, more direct drives to our Batavia showroom of any town we serve, a straight run down Route 63 with nothing to navigate around. That matters when a family wants to stop in and see granite colors in person, or pick up a proof without losing half a day.

We design, engrave, and install everything ourselves, in the same building, nothing passes through a third-party fabricator at any point. You’ll walk through more than 90 named granite colors in person rather than choosing from a printed sheet, and our in-house fine artist can turn a family photograph into a hand-etched portrait without any of that work leaving the building. We also offer financing for families who want to spread out the cost over time.

Upright vs. Flat Headstones: What Western New York Families Should Know Before Choosing

Not Sure Where to Start? We Can Help

If you’ve lost someone recently, we know choosing a memorial is not something you want to feel rushed into. There’s no pressure here. Families from Oakfield who work with us usually start with a phone call or a short trip down Route 63 to the Batavia showroom, and we take care of coordinating with Cary Cemetery or wherever your family’s plot is located. You don’t need to already know the rules or the process. That part is ours to handle.

If You’re Planning Ahead for Your Family

Planning a memorial in advance is one of the more practical things a person can do for the people they leave behind. It means the design reflects what you actually want, chosen at your own pace, rather than a decision made quickly under pressure. Oakfield families who plan ahead with us can select their granite color, finalize their design, and have it all documented so their family isn’t left guessing later. Financing is available if spreading out the cost makes planning easier.

Signs Your Monument Needs Attention

Some of the oldest stones at Machpelah Cemetery, set in the 1860s, are still straight and legible. Others from the same era have tilted, cracked, or grown over. The difference almost always comes down to how deep the original foundation was set relative to WNY’s frost line.

FOUR THINGS TO LOOK FOR WHEN YOU VISIT A FAMILY MONUMENT:

01

It’s visibly tilting, even slightly

02

There are cracks at the base or through the lettering

03

Green or black biological growth is covering the surface

04

The lettering is becoming hard to read from a normal standing distance
